Gabriel Paulista showed his warrior-like approach to football once again after sustaining a horrible head injury. 

The former Arsenal centre-back clashed heads with Valencia team-mate Exequiel Garay, opening up a deep cut above his eye. 

Paulista gushed with blood at the time of the incident, taking off his shirt as the claret ran down his neck.

The image of the 28-year-old jogging from the field of play as if nothing had happened showed his uncompromising approach to the game familiar with Gunners fans. 

Garay posted updates on Instagram after the 3-1 aggregate win over Getafe in the Copa del Rey quarter-final. 

He wrote: ‘You have to die on the pitch,’ alongside a picture of himself holding a pack of ice to his cheek with Paulista in the background showing off his freshly stitched cut.

Garay then shared a snap of himself in a hospital bed, writing: ‘The strong blow to the head left me spending the night in observation. Now I am recovering for Saturday to go for another battle.’  

There were huge celebrations among the Valencia players and supporters outside the Mestalla after the win. 

They will play either Real Madrid, Barcelona, Girona, Real Betis, Sevilla or Espanyol in the next round.
