A woman has described the ‘terrifying’ moment she returned to her flat after three months away to find “alien” potatoes had taken over her kitchen.
Donna Poree, 22, left her apartment in Caen, France, when the coronavirus lockdown was imposed.
And she got quite the shock when she entered her kitchen after being away to find her potatoes had grown massive, tentacle-like sprouts.
She had bought the bag of potatoes for £2.25 from a local supermarket in March.
The student shared the pictures on social media where they went viral.
They show the potato bag with the potatoes themselves completely overrun by the huge, long, tentacle-like sprouts, that “colonised” her desk and were in the process of taking over her tiny flat.
She captioned the pictures: “After three months away, my potatoes decided to grow without limits, so much so that they made a hole in the seals.”
A close look at the pictures reveals that the desk was sealed to the wall but this did not stop the potato sprouts from powering on straight through them and creeping eerily up the wall in search of water.
Donna said: “Before I realised that they were just potato sprouts, I was terrified by the silhouette with the long rods along the wall.
“I was not far from a heart attack.”
She added: “It was only after I turned the light on that I realised that they were just sprouts, and then I laughed at the whole, unusual situation.”
One person replied: “This scares a little.”
Another joked: “I have a wall to drill but I’m too lazy, I’m going to put a potato next to it and I’ll be back in 6 months.”
