Newcastle eye Odion Ighalo

Newcastle are interested in making a shock transfer move for Odion Ighalo once their £300million takeover is completed. The former Watford man is currently on loan at Manchester United.

But the Magpies could swoop this summer and take the Nigerian to the north east as they look to establish themselves as a force in the Premier League.

Ighalo is expected to return to Shanghai Shenhua for the start of the new Chinese Super League season, scheduled to start in July.

United are keen to extend their loan deal so the 30-year-old can help them if the Premier League restarts amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Shanghai Shenhua will only let Ighalo stay at Old Trafford if they pay £20million to make the deal permanent though.

And Sky Sports claim Newcastle could hijack them in signing the striker once their takeover officially goes through.

What Donny van de Beek has said on transfer

Manchester United and Newcastle are both interested in signing Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek this summer when the transfer window opens.

And the Dutchman has previously spoken about the prospect of leaving the club.

Van de Beek is one of the highest-rated midfielders in Europa and has impressed again this season.

The 23-year-old has netted 10 goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions to keep those interested on high alert.

And comments last October suggest he could now be talking to clubs about his future.

“I don’t want to leave during the January transfer window,” he told Voetbal International.

“I’ll play here until the end of the season; I’ll finish the year at Ajax. That gives me peace of mind.

“We’ll see what happens later. Do they know that in Madrid?

“Surely everyone knows. I don’t like the idea of changing teams midseason.”

Chelsea signing hailed

Hakim Ziyech is good enough to go straight into Chelsea’s starting line up when he arrives at the club, Jesper Gronkjaer claims.

“Ziyech was the one who has caught my eye over the past two seasons even though he wasn’t produced by Ajax’s academy,” Gronkjaer said.

“You need players like that. I think all the top clubs will have looked at Ziyech and asked the question if he is good enough for our team.

“He is a fantastic player but I think for Chelsea he will be in the starting XI straight away.

“Almost all the clubs in the Premier League could afford someone like Ziyech. Newcastle will be right up there competing in the market again. It is a good signing and he will start a lot.

“Also, we still have yet to see the true potential of Christian Pulisic as well because he is going to be a great player as well. So those are things to look forward to at Chelsea.”

Man Utd told they made transfer mistake

Inter Milan legend Ivan Cordoba has criticised Manchester United for not understanding Romelu Lukaku as they offloaded the Belgian last year after a torrid two years at Old Trafford.

“Lukaku is an extraordinary player,” Cordoba said.

“Manchester United did not understand the player’s potential and his last season was bad for him.

“In my opinion Lukaku is proving everyone to be a champion.

“He is determined and the Premier League has improved him a lot. I met him: he is a positive leader in the changing rooms.

“It’s a shame that Manchester United sold him, but I’m happy that Inter bought him. Antonio Conte has been fundamental to his form at Inter.”

Newcastle sent Kalidou Koulibaly warning

Newcastle United have been warned Kalidou Koulibaly is not as good as he once was.

Italian football expert Aurelio Capaldi said: “I think that Kouliably needs a new experience and also Napoli would be happy to let him go if they could get a good offer.

“Newcastle has been a whisper but I think that it’s not the same situation, for example, as last year because Koulibaly’s last season was not so good.

“He had lots of physical problems, he had injuries, basically he made mistakes and he went unnoticed.

“So I think that Napoli are happy to let him go if they get the right money but it’s hard to identify the right quantity of money now because Koulibaly at the moment is not the player that he used to be. So that is something which must be discussed.

“Koulibaly is earning around €7million net per season and as you can remember two years ago, market reports were saying that there were clubs ready to buy him for €100m.

“I don’t think that is the case now, not only for Koulibaly’s recent performances, not only for the injuries he’s had to face, but also because the market has changed and the market is still changing.

“Everybody is trying to realise the new shape of the market. I think Napoli are trying to find the right balance between the value they give to the player and the realistic offer that will come.”

Jack Grealish ‘will leave’ Villa

Manchester United transfer target Jack Grealish will 100 per cent leave Aston Villa this summer if the Villans are relegated, Paul Merson claims.

“I would say 100 per cent [Grealish will leave]. If Villa go down then I think they will get rid of Jack and he will be sold,” Merson said.

“He’s a Villa man through and through, he loves Aston Villa.

“But he will have to move on, there is no doubt about that if he wants to better himself.

“It’s horrible saying that, better yourself, because it’s a great club, but he will have to play in the Premier League.”

Arsenal deadline

Arsenal have been set a deadline by Real Madrid of June 15 for a decision on the future of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Los Blancos are keen to sign the Gabon international but are waiting to see what happens at the Emirates.

Aubameyang has just 13 months left on his contract at the club and there is much speculation over his future.

Real Madrid are one of several clubs that have been linked with the former Borussia Dortmund man including Chelsea and Manchester United.

Arsenal must make a decision between cashing in on Aubameyang now or risking losing him on a free transfer next summer.

Real are keen but in order to get their window planned they need to know what is happening with the 30-year-old by June 15, according to the Mirror.

One option which could be explored is a swap deal which could see Dani Ceballos make his loan deal permanent at Arsenal.

Liverpool readying Arsenal raid

Liverpool are eyeing up a summer move for Bukayo Saka, but Arsenal are poised to reject any offers they receive. The Gunners are currently locked in talks to extend the teenager’s deal, which is due to expire next year.

The 18-year-old is making the Arsenal hierarchy sweat on his future and the north London club are now fearing losing him on a free transfer.

Saka has made the step up to senior football look easy since being handed his debut at the Emirates Stadium and he is now a regular under Mikel Arteta.

He has operated as both a left-winger and left-back, with his dribbling and crossing ability catching the eye.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool are ready to capitalise on his uncertain future at Arsenal.

The Reds are said to be lining up a move at the end of the season, but Arsenal are ready to reject any offers.

Man Utd swap deal possible

Manchester United are open to agreeing a swap deal with Juventus for Paul Pogba in the summer transfer window. The France international has hinted he’s open to a move at the end of the season.

Juventus, Real Madrid and PSG are all eyeing the midfielder, while Inter Milan have also been credited with interest in the World Cup winner.

United are aware the coronavirus pandemic will affect the summer transfer window, with clubs unlikely to pay large fees.

And according to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, United are willing to agree a swap deal with Juventus involving Pogba.

The Red Devils are said to be eyeing former Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot.

Either player could be used in a player-plus-cash deal to entice United to sell Pogba.

Tuttosport also add that United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has lowered his asking price for Pogba from £150m to £100m due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Chelsea identify top target

Dries Mertens is Chelsea’s top priority ahead of the summer transfer window with the Napoli star yet to agree a new deal at the Stadio Sao Paolo. The Belgium international is out of contract at the end of the season and Frank Lampard is keen to snap up the veteran and bolster his attacking options.

Chelsea were linked with Mertens in January when Olivier Giroud looked certain to leave Stamford Bridge but the Frenchman stayed put and a move failed to materialise.

However, reports from Holland suggest the Blues are back in for Mertens and Lampard has singled out the 33-year-old as his prime target this summer.

Het Laatste Nieuws claim Mertens is a ‘top priority’ and Mertens himself is ‘ready for a new adventure’ after a seven-year spell with Napoli.

The forward is tied all-time top scorer for the Naples outfit alongside Marek Hamsik, but may not have a chance to claim the outright record due to the coronavirus crisis.
