Monsieur George, Designed by Anouska Hempel, Opens in Paris

There’s a new luxury bolthole near the Champs-Élysées in Paris, and it was decorated by talked-about designer Anouska Hempel. The creator of Blakes and the Hempel hotels in London, Hempel has waved her wand over a number of hotel and restaurant projects around the globe, even a luxury yacht plying the Adriatic Sea off the coastlines of Croatia and Montenegro. (She was also behind the flagship Louis Vuitton store in Paris, the Duxton Six Senses in Singapore, Blakes Amsterdam, Grosvenor House Suites on London’s Park Lane and The Franklin Hotel in Knightsbridge.) For her latest project, Hempel sought to create a modern address in the style of a Parisian maison, where each guest room reflects a different, unique style. She found design inspiration in Turkey, where she renovated a palace on the Bosphorus, and Morocco, where she is designing a hotel for Baccarat.

Monsieur George is part of a small group of Paris hotels called the Monsieur Collection, located in diverse districts all over the French capital. Monsieur George is situated at the corner of rue Washington and rue Chateaubriand in the 8th arrondissement, and takes its moniker from the first American president for which the street is named.

With 46 rooms and suites, the hotel occupies an elegant Haussmannian building that was once the home of the French actor known as Raimu. The Galanga Restaurant & Bar will cater to guests and locals at all hours of the day, while on the lower level, the subterranean spa is a collaboration with trendy Paris brand Le Tigre. Here guests can get fitness advice from personal trainers, partake in a yoga class, or relax with a signature treatment like the Tigremassage and the Tigre facial.
