“We’re absolutely disgusted with it”
For the last few weeks, customers at the Lyons, NY, branch of McDonald’s have been complaining of finding worms wriggling around at the bottom of drinks cups.
College student Samantha Giles was one of the first victims.
She told WROC TV she had finished a drink she had bought in the McDonald’s branch and opened the lid so she could chew on some of the ice.
It was then that she spotted the wriggly interloper.
Samantha, who was pregant at the time of the incident, complained to the Maccy-D’s branch manager, and to her local state health department.
The health department checked out the stowaway, and got back to her: “They had it tested, and told me it was an earthworm,” Samantha told the TV station.
A few weeks later another customer, Justin Confer, reported a similar experience. His daughter found an earthworm swimming in her drink.
“Our family is just…we’re absolutely disgusted with it,” he told WROC TV.
The local health department has received several similar complaints, reports Fox News.
The McDonald’s franchise owner made a statement to Fox News, saying:
“Serving safe, high-quality food and beverages is my top priority and we have worked with the local Health Department and Police Department to look into this claim.
“We’re taking this situation very seriously, including action to ensure that this doesn’t happen again.”
The New York State Health Department said that they were co-ordinating efforts with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office but it could not comment further due to the pending law enforcement investigation.
