A bizarre video has emerged of a man taking two huge rats for a “walk of shame” on the street after capturing them in his traps.
The incident took place yesterday (December 13) in the city of Zhongshan, Guangdong province in south-east China.
Video posted by a local resident shared the eye-opening scene the man walked two rats with a long string.
It appears that the man has placed a wire through the rodents’ mouth with a string attached to act as a lead.
One of the rats can be seen sniffing around as the man takes them to the street.
Another one looks rather lifeless and is dragged across the ground.
The man, who dresses in a military green jacket and a beige trousers, looks unfazed while lifting the rats up as he carries on walking in the busy street.
The resident wrote on Douyin: “I’ve seen people walking dogs, but I haven’t seen #rats.”
This is not the first time people in China have been caught “shaming” rodents as a punishment for stealing food.
In 2017, a man tied up a rat for stealing rice and beat it with a stick to death.
Another poor creature was burned alive after getting caught stealing bread at a home.
Viewers were shocked to see the “walk of shame” but many took light of the matter, joking that the man was keeping the rats as his pets.
“This is truly one unique pet, the rat on the left looks completely exhausted and can’t be bothered to walk anymore,” one wrote.
Another said: “You can tell he is lonely that he resorts to keep rats as companions.”
But others said it is too cruel to keep the rats on a leash with wires in the mouth.
“They are in pain, he better just kill them than torturing them like this,” a viewer penned.
A second added: “The other rat is dragged to death, this is too horrible to watch.”
