The image, posted on Reddit, shows six bright dots in the clear blue sky over what the uploader says are the Northern Mariana Islands, a US overseas territory consisting of 14 islands in the northwestern Pacific Ocean.
One person joked: “Our overlords made some air holes in the blue box they keep us in. They are good, they take care of us.”
But one Reddit user thinks they have a far simpler explanation to the mystery, suggesting: “Nope, light reflections.”
The Northern Mariana Islands have a population of around 56,000 people across the islands.
This is not the first time someone browsing on Google Maps has discovered spooky images on the popular site.
Recently someone spotted what appeared to be an alien mothership emerging from the clouds over an address in Ochopee, Florida.
But on closer inspection, the UFO actually turned out to be a mere optical illusion.
The non-human creature captured on the Google Street View image was, sadly, entirely terrestrial.
A butterfly fluttering close to the camera was captured in mid-flight, and the systems AI photo-stitching has blended it into a nearby cloud formation.
The uploader shared a photo of the eerie image that was spotted in the Dominican Republic, an island in the Caribbean.
It shows a bright light on the top of a residential area in the region which is surrounded by houses.
The colour is white then radiates a green and yellow light from the side of it.
One person commented: “I thought it was a plane, but if you look around the town there are a few more.”
