The strange sight was captured on the Hongze Lake in China’s Jiangzu this week.
A video posted by People’s Daily shows what seems to be a row of buildings hovering on the water’s surface.
Such incidents are often linked to the mirage known as Fata Morgana.
The effect occurs when light rays penetrate air layers of a different density which then reflect to show an image of far away objects.
But the latest clip stands out from the rest given the moving wind turbine, with some viewers claiming it proves it can’t be simply a mirage.
More than 18,000 people have seen the clip since it was posted to YouTube on August 5.
“No way is that a mirage, they don’t have wind turbines,” one wrote.
Another commented: “That stuff is really strange.”
And a third asked: “Where is this city being reflected from?
“Does anyone recognise this as a city they know of?”
It comes after a “ghost sea” mysteriously appeared in a barren desert 1,550 miles from the nearest ocean.
Viewers linked it back to the same optical illusion that was seen over the lake.
