Fish falls from sky and crashes into lorry driver

A truck driver was “dive-bombed” with a live fish at over 60mph when a passing careless gull lost its grip on its lunch.

The trucker’s bizarre – and potentially dangerous – adventure was captured on his dashcam and the clip was made public this week by Ward Transport and Logistics, a trucking company based in Charlotte, North Carolina.

“One of our £charlotte drivers verifies that when driving a truck, you must be prepared for anything,” a Ward Transport representative wrote on Twitter.

As the video was uploaded without sound, it’s not clear exactly how the driver reacted but he appears to have brought the truck to a controlled stop on the hard shoulder without any major drama.

The driver was going about 63 mph in a 65 mph zone, the video shows. There was no major damage beyond a thin film of slimy fish guts on the truck’s windshield.

Unsurprisingly, the video collected a number of impressed responses on Twitter – one bird-lover, Devlynn O’Shaughstrey, said: “I thought it was the bird at first and was very very upset, thank goodness it was only a smelly fish.”

“Had a lot of things hit my windows but never a fish,” one commenter wrote.

The fish-bomb was dropped near Randleman Lake on the Randolph County stretch of Interstate 73, a major motorway in NorthCarolina that is still partially under construction.

It is believed to have been a black crappie, a freshwater fish quite common in the US that’s reportedly quite tasty.

They’re especially plentiful from early March to the middle of May, which might explain why the bird wasn’t too worried about losing its lunch.
