Ex-M&S fashion chief to take over at Costa Coffee: Jill McDonald puts ‘jeansgate’ fiasco behind her

The former Marks & Spencer high-flyer who was sacked after the ‘jeansgate’ fiasco has found a new job as chief executive of Costa Coffee.

Jill McDonald (pictured) was head of clothing at M&S when buying errors meant that key products sold out.

Her former boss Steve Rowe lamented the poorest stock levels ‘I have ever seen in my life’, after the retailer quickly ran out of items heavily promoted by TV presenter Holly Willoughby.

Despite recent woes, M&S remains the UK’s biggest fashion retailer, with a business worth more than £3billion.

McDonald, 55, joins Costa, which has 2,389 cafes in the UK, on December 2, replacing Dominic Paul, who is stepping down after more than three years.

She returns to the food sector more than four years after leaving McDonald’s for Halfords, where she became the auto parts retailer’s chief executive in March 2015.
