Baffling footage has captured what seems to be a castle identical to Harry Potter’s iconic Hogwarts floating above a city in China.
The creepy clip – which has exploded on Chinese social media site Weibo – appears to show the silhouette of a vast complex floating in the sky above several modern buildings.
Several clips from different angles show the “castle” remaining in position in the cloudy sky.
It features pointed towers much like those seen in J.K.Rowling’s iconic series of books and films.
The video was taken in the Shandong Province in eastern China on September 11 and it wasn’t long before thousands of viewers were commenting it’s similarities to the wizarding school.
“Is this the Shandong branch of Hogwarts?” one asked.
Another joked: “How can muggles see Hogwarts?”
While a third said: “Has Hogwarts finally come to China to recruit students?”
But there is in fact a plausible explanation for the incredible sight.
After the video went viral, local news outlet Shandon Broadcast Channel visited the camerawoman Ms Su to try to find out what caused it.
She explained it was simply a reflection on a window of a nearby residential building, which features Hogwarts-style towers.
Other similar incidents in the past have been put down to a type of mirage known as Fata Morgana.
The optical illusion, often present during humid weather, is caused by light rays bending and producing a displaced image of a real object elsewhere.
Back in 2017, the internet was sent into a frenzy after an “alien” city was spotted in the sky.
