A bizarre conspiracy theory has been ignited claiming Jeffrey Epstein is still alive after an alleged “sighting” – despite the convicted sex offender being found dead in his cell in a recorded suicide.
It is more than a year since his death and it seems some are still not convinced.
Epstein’s body was found on August 10 2019 and his death was ruled “suicide by hanging “.
But some conspiracy theorists believe he was murdered – and others go even further to suggest he is alive and in hiding.
Staying true to form, Epstein’s death has also been the subject of endless theories.
The most recent claims Epstein was allegedly spotted at his ranch in New Mexico, where it is claimed he raped and abused his victims.
In a video posted by YouTube channel ABQ Raw last month, it has been claimed the billionaire was spotted outside the infamous ranch inside a red vehicle, approaching the fence line.
The person narrating the video suggests “Epstein rode off into the sunset after faking his death”.
He said: “While we were on scene, a red truck approached the fence line and a gentlemen rolled the window down.
“He observed the protest and raised his cell phone to snap some photos of the group.
He goes on to claim: “The driver of the red truck had a striking resemblance to the recently deceased Jeffrey Epstein.”
There is no evidence to suggest Jeffrey Epstein is alive.
The American billionaire was facing fresh charges of sex trafficking and conspiracy at the time of his death and faced 45 years behind bars if convicted.
His body was found in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Centre in New York City.
However, although the death was ruled suicide, according to claims correct procedures were not being followed at the time of his death.
A guard was reportedly required to check up on Epstein every 30 minutes, reports The New York Times.
Another report claimed two cameras placed outside his jail cell malfunctioned at the time of his death – casting doubt around the circumstances.
In January this year, the BBC reported surveillance video was destroyed by accident.
A letter filed by Assistant US Attorneys Jason Swergold and Maurene Comey said: “The requested video no longer exists on the backup system and has not since at least August 2019 as a result of technical errors.”
Epstein’s lawyers Reid Weingarten and Martin Weinberg told US District Judge Richard Berman they had doubts about the conclusion that he had killed himself.
Even Syrian President Bashar al-Assad allegedly expressed his opinion regarding the death, he said: “He was killed because he knew a lot of vital secrets connected with very important people in the British and American regimes, and possibly in other countries as well,” reports Financial Times.
